Field Visit to Victoria Hospital-World Breastfeeding Awareness Week-1/8/24
On August 1st, 2024, as part of their Learning and Skill Development (LSD) program, 2nd degree Home Science students, accompanied by their faculty members, visited Victoria Hospital to observe World Breastfeeding Awareness Week. The field visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to explore the practical implications of breastfeeding and maternal care.
During the visit, the students toured various wards, including the antenatal care ward, pregnancy ward, neonatal ward, operating theatre (OT), and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This hands-on experience allowed them to gain insights into the healthcare practices associated with breastfeeding and maternal care.
To gather comprehensive data, students conducted personal interviews and distributed questionnaires to healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers. This firsthand data collection was instrumental in enriching their understanding of the complexities involved in antenatal and neonatal care.
The visit was an eye-opening experience for the students, reinforcing the importance of breastfeeding and the critical role healthcare facilities play in supporting mothers and newborns.
