On August 9th, 2024, final-year Home Science students embarked on a field visit to Ashraya Kendram, an NGO under GVMC, as part of their MVO (Management and Voluntary Organizations) practical. The visit provided valuable insights into the operations and management of non-governmental organizations.

During the visit, students learned about various aspects of NGO management, including the allocation of funds, licensing requirements, and other operational details. Representatives from Ashraya Kendram offered detailed explanations about their organizational structure, financial management, and the challenges they face in their mission.

The experience was educational and enlightening, giving students a practical understanding of how NGOs function and contribute to community development.

On August 4th, 2024, Home Science students organized a vibrant rally on Beach Road to celebrate National Handloom Day. The rally aimed to promote awareness and appreciation for handloom textiles and their significance in preserving traditional crafts.

Students participated enthusiastically, carrying banners and placards that highlighted the beauty and cultural heritage of handloom fabrics. The rally featured colorful displays and engaging interactions with passersby, who were invited to learn more about the importance of supporting handloom industries.

The event was a successful initiative in raising public awareness and fostering pride in traditional textiles, setting a positive tone for the upcoming National Handloom Day celebrations.

On August 7th, 2024, the National Handloom Day celebration featured a spectacular ramp walk, showcasing the creativity and talent of final-year Home Science students. Each student designed and stitched their own unique styles using handloom materials, presenting a vibrant array of traditional and contemporary fashion on the ramp.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Y. Lakshmi Prabha, retired Head of the Home Science Department, and Dr. P.K. Jaya Lakshmi, Head of Second Languages. They served as judges for the show, providing valuable feedback and praise for the students' innovative designs.

In addition to the ramp walk, students performed a lively dance routine featuring recent releases inspired by handloom sarees. The performance was a highlight of the event, adding an energetic and entertaining element to the celebration. Faculty members also joined the ramp walk, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The event was a massive hit, receiving enthusiastic applause and positive feedback from attendees. It successfully celebrated the beauty of handloom textiles while highlighting the students' dedication and skill in fashion design.

National Handloom Day Display-7/8/24

On August 7th, 2024, the Department of Home Science celebrated National Handloom Day with a vibrant display of handloom sarees from various states. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Y. Lakshmi Prabha, former Head of the Home Science Department, alongside Sr. Mary, Superintendent, Sr. Daisy, and Sr. Nancy.

Final-year Home Science students showcased an impressive collection of handloom sarees, representing the rich textile heritage of India. The display also featured a creatively designed photo booth, adding a touch of interaction and fun to the event.

The exhibit attracted visitors from various departments, faculty members, school teachers, and students from St. Joseph's School, including the school's principal. The visitors were highly impressed by the creativity, cultural representation, and the dedication of the students in organizing such an inspiring display.

The event successfully highlighted the beauty and significance of handloom textiles, fostering appreciation for traditional crafts among the attendees.

After five years, a final-year Home Science student has been elected to this prestigious position, marking a significant achievement for our department.

Debate Competetion on Breastfeed vs Artifical Feed 0n 5/8/24

 Debate Competition on Breastfeeding vs. Artificial Feeding

On August 5th, 2024, a thought-provoking debate competition was held for 2nd and 3rd-year Home Science students, centered on the topic "Breastfeeding vs. Artificial Feeding." The event provided a platform for students to explore and articulate the benefits and challenges associated with both breastfeeding and artificial feeding.

Participants engaged in a lively discussion, presenting well-researched arguments on both sides of the topic. The debate highlighted important aspects of infant nutrition, touching on health implications, accessibility, and societal perceptions.

The competition was judged by Nivya, a faculty member from Home Science, along with Sravan Sreeja, also from the Home Science department. Their expertise added depth to the evaluation process, providing valuable feedback to the participants.

The event was a great success, fostering critical thinking and deepening the students' understanding of the complexities involved in infant feeding choices.
