III Degree and PG students

The Home Science Department organized a display of various experiments such as


1. Candle test to test fibers 
2. Test to identify adulteration of milk
3. Gluten test of wheat and Maida flour
4. Color wheel to identify warm and cool colors 

The display was arranged by the first PG students and office bearers of the Home Science Association. A short presentation was done on pioneers in Home Science in India and leading science research institutes to enhance the awareness of the students. It was attended by the faculty of the department and the final year degree students.

They enacted a small play on importance of Home Science before presenting the PPT. The activities were under the Mentorship of the Faculty – Dr. Y Lakshmi Prabha (HOD of the Dept) Ms. Sony and Ms. Gayatri.

Azadi ka Amrith Mahosthav Special Camping Program organized by NSS  Invited as Subject Matter Specialist(SMS) to deliver the talk on various aspects of adolescent issues, covering the cores of Home Science. Faculty of Home Science department is invited as resource person

Mrs.N.Nivya, Mrs.V.Sony, Mr. Sai Sudha, Sr.Dipali Singh  Delivered lecture on  Various topics like Wardrobe management, Nutrition Requirement for Adolescents, Stress Management. Values and Ethics.

The Target group were Adolescent girls from St josephs college.

REPORT

We the department of home science had a workshop on glycemic index-A Helpful tool for diabetes,  25th February 2022, from afternoon 1pm-4pm, with our guest lecture Mrs.S.Gayathri, Senior Nutrition consultant & In charge Starlite Nutrition

Madam was the speaker for the 3rd Home science who are 48 in strength  and PG students.

Our topic was on Glycemic index and Glycemic Load which are directly proportional to each other.

The different types of glycemic foods:

Low glycemic index foods,  glycemic index foods and High glycemic index foods.

Factors influencing glycemic index

Glycemic foods in Red zone, yellow zone, green zone.

ACTIVITIES:

Mrs S.Gayathri divided the students into groups namely green zone, yellow zone, red zone and asked them to prepare a recipe according to their groups like low and medium and high, made the students much more involved as if they are dealing with real-time patients.

As a second activity mam told the students to prepare a menu plan for type-2 diabetes, as a part of the workshop she explained the type 1 and type 2 diabetes and also about the complications – polyurea, polydypsia, polyphagia. 

The organs effected/ complications to the organs like Retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy ,etc, with the affect of diabetes .

Hence it was an enriching session and we are really happy to learn it from Mrs S.Gayathri our Honorable Speaker of the Workshop, who is dealing with real-time patients

We the department of Home Science had a three day workshop by A guest lecture K.Rani an entrepreneur of soft toy making from 16thfebuary to 18th February 2022. The 19AG batch student bought their materials like fur, felt, jean thread, scissors, drafting sheets and other necessaries. On the first day of the workshop, first we learnt how to draft an elephant, puppy, chick, rabbit and teddy bear. Our guest lecture thought us how to draft and cut the shape of the toy and thought us to finish it with the blanket stitch to give the toy a complete finishing.  

  On the second and third day of the workshop we learnt the proper stitching, finishing, and stuffing of the toy, and completed the soft toy making. 

The soft toy making enhances the students in the entrepreneurship program by developing their skills with eye-hand coordination and some creativeness within them.

We the students3rd year home science had a guest lecture on Entrepreneurship development programme by Mrs P. UshaGajpatiraju, a consultant diet titian, a vegetable gardening trainer. She is a Leading consultant in the city dealt with more than 50,000 patients bit includes obesity, diabetes, oncology renal gastroenterology, cardiology and formula feeds for patients.

She motivated and inspired us by taking incredible challenges and projects. Firstly, she started her career by treating a 9 year old boy who has burnt his body 35% he was given tube feeding. Secondly she started a NGO for childhood diabetes and now she has 450 children in her NGO. She has all necessary equipments and medications and Annual checkup for free. Thirdly she has started urban eco farms which provide pesticide free food to the people of Vizag under a subscription model. Her success mantra was to manage time properly and not to get deterred by other people’s judgment and be involved in whatever u takes up personally.

We all really liked and inspired by her lecture.

A Successful Entrepreneurs who is a very hardworking lady started as an entrepreneur with a small stationary shop and then developed, it into a big business of supplying customized stationary to eminent doctors and hospitals of the city. She has been doing this business since 30 years with a humongous profit of 70-80 lakhs.

            By this session we all learned that hard work, will power and not deterring by others judgment can make us a successful entrepreneur. We were very glad to hear that she is willing to provide our students with training in the same business, who are interested for start ups.
