A TWO-DAY WORKSHOP ON FLOWER ARRANGEMENT

          Department of Home Science has conducted a two-day guest lecture on flower arrangement as part of Interior Design practical on 15 Nov, 2022 through online mode. Mrs. Susan Cherian, Associate Professor, Department of Home Science, St. Teresa’a College, Ernakulam, Kerala is invited as guest speaker. The session was started by P. Swetha of III B.Sc H.Sc by introducing the guest speaker and continued by the lecture of guest speaker. The lecture has given a good insight on different types of flower arrangement, tips and care to be taken before and after flower arrangement. Also, demonstrated few varieties of flower arrangement Students felt, the session was very fascinating and enthusiastic and took active interaction during the guest lecture. Session was concluded by formal vote thanks given by P. Swetha of III B.Sc H.Sc.

GUEST LECTURE ON FUNCTIONING OF AN VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATION – “HUManity”

          Department of Home Science has conducted a guest lecture as part of Management of Voluntary Organizations practical on the functioning and it’s contribution of HUManity (a Voluntary Organisation) on 15 Nov, 2022. Mr. Abhishek Paluri, CEO, and Founder at HUManity, NGO is invited as guest speaker. The session was started by Mohana Sarvani of III B.Sc H.Sc by introducing the guest speaker and continued by the lecture of guest speaker. The lecture has given a good insight on nature of work carried by the organization and it’s contribution to society. Students felt, the session was very fascinating and enthusiastic and took active interaction during the guest lecture. Session was concluded by formal vote thanks given by Mohana Sarvani of III B.Sc H.Sc.

 

 

Two days Workshop-Block Printing-17/3/22

 

A block printing workshop was conducted for b.sc 3^rd year students as a part of Entrepreneurship development programme.  Expert for this workshop was Mrs. Jyoti who is a expert and mentor in textiles designing from Dayalbagh educational institutes.

Girls were taught proportions of  mixing dyes for block printing. Then block printing on the garments was taught. Step by step technique was taught to the girls like pining of fabric.,

Preparing pads for dyes, holding and pressing of blocks on the fabric.By the end of the workshop a myriad of color   combinations were seen. Girls learnt about various colour combinations and and blocking techniques.

Craft is the vehicle for expressing your vision.

The students of 3^rd b.sc home science had a workshop  on 10^th March, 2022. On making paper flowers. Expert for the workshop was G.Rachana, who is a successful entrepreneur in creative art and crafts. She is also associated with many prestigious organizations. In a short span of  time students were taught four kinds of flowers . Students had a great experience and found the activity very engaging and stress busting.

Guest speaker- APPC PROGRAM- 13/5/22

 

Extension Lecture was given by the faculty of department of Homescience-V.Sony and T.Gayatri on Capacity Building Training programmed for Existing Aspiring SC-ST Entrepreneurs organized by APPC, Hyderabad.

            Im been invited as a guest speaker for NSS-District Level Training For NSS Programme Officers-18/2/22 with the association with UNICEF, Hyderabad. the target group were teachers nss project officers of Visakhapatnam district as a training program.

III Degree and PG students

The Home Science Department organized a display of various experiments such as

1. Candle test to test fibers 

2. Test to identify adulteration of milk

3. Gluten test of wheat and Maida flour

4. Color wheel to identify warm and cool colors 

The display was arranged by the first PG students and office bearers of the Home Science Association. A short presentation was done on pioneers in Home Science in India and leading science research institutes to enhance the awareness of the students. It was attended by the faculty of the department and the final year degree students.

They enacted a small play on importance of Home Science before presenting the PPT. The activities were under the Mentorship of the Faculty – Dr. Y Lakshmi Prabha (HOD of the Dept) Ms. Sony and Ms. Gayatri.
