Internship at Dayalbhag Education Institute-28th April to 28th May, 2024-22AJ batch

 

II Degree Home Science Students' Internship at Dayalbhag Education Institute

As part of their academic curriculum, the second-year Home Science students undertook a 180-day short-term internship at Dayalbhag Education Institute's Elementary School and Vocational Training School (A.R.E.S) in Dayal Nagar Colony, Visalakshinagar Post, Visakhapatnam. This internship provided the students with invaluable hands-on experience and practical knowledge in various aspects of clothing design and tailoring. Number of students:15. 22AJ batch

During the internship, our students focused on:

  1. Designing of Clothes:

    • Learned the principles of fashion design and the creative process behind developing new clothing styles.
    • Gained insight into current fashion trends and how to incorporate them into their designs.
  2. Drafting and Cutting:

    • Acquired skills in drafting patterns for different types of garments.
    • Learned precise cutting techniques to ensure the accuracy and quality of the final products.
  3. Pattern Making:

    • Explored different patterns for various garments such as salwar suits, blouses, skirts, and frocks.
    • Understood the importance of pattern grading and adjustments to fit different body types.
  4. Tailoring Techniques:

    • Practiced sewing and assembling garments, focusing on both hand stitching and machine sewing.
    • Enhanced their proficiency in finishing techniques to ensure professionally made clothing.

This internship at Dayalbhag Education Institute enabled the students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, honing their skills in clothing design and production. The experience not only improved their technical abilities but also prepared them for future careers in the fashion and textile industry





Bhagavatula Charitable Trust-180 days Short term Internship April 28th to May 28th, 2024-22AJ batch

 

II Degree Home Science Students' Internship at Bhagavatula Charitable Trust

As part of their curriculum, the second-year Home Science students embarked on a 180-day short-term internship at the Bhagavatula Charitable Trust. This non-profit, non-sectarian social service organization, established in 1976, is dedicated to transforming rural Andhra Pradesh, particularly in the Visakhapatnam district. With a four-decade-long journey in enhancing the quality of life for rural communities, the Trust focuses on diverse developmental aspects.

During this internship, our students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in various crucial fields:

  1. Nutrition:

    • Gained hands-on experience in understanding and addressing the nutritional needs of rural populations.
    • Worked on nutritional assessments and community nutrition programs.
  2. Anganwadi Sectors:

    • Acquired knowledge about the functioning and management of Anganwadi centers, which play a critical role in early childhood care and education.
    • Participated in health and nutrition education programs for children and mothers.
  3. Agriculture:

    • Learned sustainable agricultural practices and the importance of agriculture in rural development.
    • Engaged in fieldwork, assisting in crop management and understanding the challenges faced by farmers.
    • Product Development:

      • Explored the development of rural products, including food processing and craft items.
      • Worked on adding value to agricultural products and creating market linkages.
    • This internship provided the students with a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted approach required for rural development. It also enhanced their practical skills and knowledge, preparing them to contribute effectively to community development in their future careers

The alumni of our Home Science program were recently motivated to exercise their right to vote, embracing their responsibilities as citizens. With a strong sense of civic duty, each alum cast their vote successfully, contributing to the formation of a better government. This collective action not only demonstrates their commitment to civic engagement but also serves as an inspiration for current students to understand the importance of their participation in the democratic process. By voting, they have helped to shape policies and reforms that can lead to positive changes in our society.

Students pursuing a first-degree in Home Science are undertaking a one-month community internship in collaboration with the DHAN Foundation. They are conducting surveys on various health conditions across different communities, including Isakathotha, Kanchrapalem, Jalarapeta, and Malkapuram. The internship runs daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

EXTENSION ACTIVITY REPORT-6

In partnership with the DHAN foundation, the Department of Home Science orchestrated an extension education initiative tailored to meet the specific requirements of the NGO's beneficiaries on 07.03.2024. Under the guidance of second-year Home Science students, the program aimed to enlighten participants on nutrition, with a special emphasis on integrating iron-rich foods into the diets of women in their reproductive years at Kancharlapalem, Visakhapatnam. The session featured a comprehensive lecture delving into the importance, necessity, and benefits of calcium consumption, alongside a hands-on demonstration of wholesome recipes. To ensure active involvement, students utilized a diverse array of interactive aids, including charts, pamphlets, leaflets, puppet shows, and interactive games. Moreover, they introduced inventive recipes like Soyabean paratha  and Ragi powder , accentuating their nutritional significance. The event fostered an immersive environment, equipping attendees with invaluable insights into sustaining a well-rounded and nourishing diet.
