Mrs. Surya Deepthi, who shared her professional insights on adolescent
nutrition and mental health. The session began with an overview of healthy
eating habits and the importance of balanced nutrition during the teenage
years.
The speaker explained various types
of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge
eating disorder. The causes, symptoms, risk factors, and health consequences
associated with these disorders were discussed in detail. Emphasis was laid on
the influence of peer pressure, media exposure, and societal expectations on
body image among teenagers.
The lecture also highlighted
practical strategies to develop a healthy relationship with food, improve
self-esteem, manage stress, and support peers experiencing eating-related
issues. The session was interactive, with students actively participating and
clarifying their doubts.

“Exploring Careers in Fashion, Design and Textiles”

On
18-12-2025 at 3:00 PM, a team from the National Institute of Fashion Technology
(NIFT), Hyderabad, visited the campus to conduct a career counselling session
for I and II year B.Sc. Home Science students. The session was attended by 45
students.
The NIFT
team consisted of Prof. Dr. M. Annaji Sarma (Professor), Prof. G. M. Reddy
(Associate Professor), and Mr. Ganesheswara Rao (Administrative Officer). They
addressed the students and provided valuable insights into career opportunities
in the fashion industry.
During the
session, the team elaborated on design education and introduced NIFT as a
premier institution functioning under the Ministry of Textiles. They explained
that NIFT was established through an Act of Parliament and offers a wide range
of programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral
levels in the fields of design, technology, and management, focusing on
fashion, textiles, clothing, and accessories.
The
speakers highlighted the excellent placement opportunities available through
NIFT and also emphasized the availability of fee reimbursement and support
systems for students belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
The
students actively participated in the session, showing keen interest and
enthusiasm. They asked several questions, which were clearly addressed by the
team, making the session interactive and engaging.
Overall,
the programme was very informative, lively, and beneficial for the students,
helping them gain clarity about career prospects in the fashion industry.
Guest Lecture on Exclusive Breastfeeding and HPV Vaccine by Dr. Mahati Sudhakar

As part of the World Breastfeeding Week observance, the Department of Home Science, St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), Visakhapatnam, organized an enlightening guest lecture on 1st August 2025 for all undergraduate and postgraduate students of Home Science.
The session was conducted by Dr. Mahati Sudhakar, renowned Laparoscopic Surgeon and Fertility Specialist from Lotus Hospital, Visakhapatnam. She delivered an impactful talk on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for both mother and child, emphasizing its role in boosting immunity, bonding, and reducing the risk of various infections and chronic diseases.
In addition, Dr. Mahati also addressed the importance of the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine, especially for adolescent girls and young women, as a key preventive measure against cervical cancer. She shared real-time clinical insights and stressed the role of early vaccination and awareness in reducing HPV-related health complications.
The session was highly interactive and informative, encouraging students to ask questions and deepen their understanding of maternal and child health. The department expressed its gratitude to Dr. Mahati Sudhakar for her valuable time and expertise.
