REPORT ON ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON

ENTREPRENEURIAL AVENUES IN ELDERLY CARE

The objectives of the Workshop were:

1. To enhance the awareness of the students about the issues of the elderly

2. To arrive at some workable plans for centers catering to the varied needs of the elderly

3. To motivate the students towards working in developing service models in elderly cares

REPORT:

ON 29TH January 2021, Prof. V.Bala Mohan Das, former Vice Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University addressed the students of 3rd year Home Science on Entrepreneurial Avenues in Elderly Care. Dr.Y.Lakshmi Prabha, Professor & Head, Dept of Home Science introduced the resource person. Prof.Balamohan Das highlighted the general idea of what entrepreneurship means. He also introduced about the qualities required by an entrepreneur. Since he was addressing students of Home science, he was very much thoughtful in mentioning about the qualities and skills similar in running an enterprise and family. He also mentioned that how women could make better entrepreneurs and this was one of the most encouraging and empowering part of his speech.

Prof. Balamohan Das exhorted the students regarding the staggering numbers of the elderly population worldwide before venturing into the avenues of entrepreneurship. Various lessons and experiences behind the existing data were explained. The avenues were majorly related to technology, services, health, travel, entertainment for elderly. Then various existing national and regional Elderly Care  NGO,s and start ups were mentioned which was a silver lining. The students were motivated about the scope for service entrepreneurship. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Ms.Shagufta Azmi of III year Home Science and a fruit basket was presented to the resource person by Ms.Ramani, PRO of St.Joseph’s College for Women (A) on behalf of the Dept of Home Science.

 In the Afternoon Session, the students were divided into five groups and were asked to work out a plan for entrepreneurial avenues for elderly in relation to their emotional, physical, recreational and health aspects, besides making a suitable  floor plan for elderly daycare center on charts given to them. The One Day Workshop inspired the students to look out and plan on venturing into entrepreneurship in elderly care sector.
