Extension Activity on “Bone Health Awareness”

On 21st October 2024, the B.Sc. Home Science II Year students of St. Joseph’s College for Women (A), in collaboration with Vasvya Mahila Mandal, organized a significant extension activity at Kancharpalem Anganwadi. The activity focused on the vital theme of “Bone Health Awareness”, specifically targeting females of reproductive age.
The objective of this initiative was to educate and create awareness among women regarding the importance of bone health, its role in overall well-being, and preventive measures to avoid bone-related disorders like osteoporosis.
Highlights of the Activity:
The event commenced with an informative and illustrative lecture delivered by the students. Various audio-visual aids like charts, leaflets, flashcards, and posters were effectively utilized to make the session engaging and easily understandable.
The lecture covered important aspects such as:

Importance of calcium, phosphorus, and Vitamin D

Dietary sources of essential bone nutrients

Practical Demonstration:
Following the lecture, the students conducted a live demonstration of a nutritious recipe — Ragi Radish Leaves Soup — known for its rich content of calcium and phosphorus, essential for bone strength.
During the demonstration, the students explained:

How the recipe can be easily incorporated into daily diets to support bone health
Participants showed keen interest in the demonstration and appreciated learning a new healthy recipe that supports bone health.
